On April 23, national tv of Iran announced that a man was arrested over publishing a video on social media, claiming that camel urine cures coronavirus. This man who doesn’t have any medical training or any apologized on tv, to people because of abusing social media to deceive people.
Just one month before in India politicians went viral over claiming that cow urine cures disease such as Corona or Cancer. Business Today wrote: Suman Haripriya, a BJP MLA from Assam, has said that cow dung and urine can help in curing coronavirus.
“Cow urine and dung are known to have medicinal values and cancer cures using them are being discovered. An ayurvedic hospital in Gujarat makes cancer patients live with the cows in the same room, a cow dung pack is also applied on their bodies and panchamrit using cow urine is given to them. I have got proof myself of a cancer patient getting cured. I think using cow dung and urine to make the coronavirus cure would prove beneficial,” said Haripriya.
Later, outside the house, Haripriya said, “The world is looking up to India to give the cure for corona virus. India has discovered something or the other. So, cow dung and urine can be used to get the cure. Cow dung and urines are used in yagnas because there is something scientific about it.”
Deccan Herald website also reported that cracks are starting to appear in West Bengal BJP, over the claim that drinking cow urine can cure novel corona virus infection. The problem started with state BJP president Dilip Ghosh’s reaction with certain persons allegedly BJP workers distributing cow urine among some people in Kolkata, claiming that it will protect them from the novel corona virus
Although Ghosh did not give a direct answer as to whether the activities of the group were authorized by his party but he said that there is nothing wrong in drinking cow urine. On March 18, Gulf news reported that Narayan Chatterjee, a BJP activist, was arrested by West Bengal state police late Tuesday for “organising the cow urine consumption event and compelling a civic volunteer to drink cow urine”
In India most of the scientists and policy makers come from upper caste Hindu religion, which results in millions of rupee falling for the research on Cow. Their science is culturally biased. It may be possible that Buffalo’s, Pig’s, Camel’s, Bat’s and Goat’s urine and shit have some good medicinal values. But, there are less money put on the research for this purpose.
There is no doubt that Cow plays an important role in Indian village economy and Camel in the desert terrain. The religious part of their importance are mentioned in religious books, which might be based on their need and importance in the society. As fiction as well as mythology inspires from reality around us. Hopefuly, scientists will give justice to their profession and state will not chose to invest money in biased ways in future.
